Putting Londoners first, in it for London not in it for himself
Boris Johnson is more in it for himself than for London. Instead of sticking to the day job he divides his time as Mayor with his role as a weekly columnist for the Daily Telegraph, which pays him £250,000 a year for this second job - a sum he calls “chicken feed”. The very well-paid Tory Mayor also took a pay rise even as everyone else has had to tighten their belt. A new biography claims that Johnson repeatedly tried to avoid his duties as London's mayor by hiring someone else to deal with the day-to-day duties.
Ken Livingstone will put Londoners first - we need an effective Mayor who’s in it for London, not for himself - Ken Livingstone will take only one salary and will take no pay rises. He will freeze the pay of his senior appointees for four years.
